Dog River Public Library - Douglassville, Georgia
Completed in 2013, This "Library in the Woods" is surrounded by a forested nature preserve. Every aspect of the design responds to its natural woodland context as well as the functional needs of the library. The impact to existing topography and mature pines and hardwoods was minimized with careful placement and layout of building and parking.
The new 15,70 square foot library utilizes principles of "green," environmentally responsible, sustainable design:
• Low maintenance, indigenous landscaping;
• Natural rain water collection system;
• Well insulated building envelope;
• Natural day-lighting in every space;
• High performance insulated window glazing;
• Solar shading of windows on south façade;
• High efficiency (16 SEER) HVAC;
• Energy efficient lighting with light harvesting to reduce power consumption
